This performance occurred over the duration of 3 weeks. Each day, I played the same song over and over—Clair de Lune by Debussy. Each time I played the piece, I transformed the piano in a small way, making additions and subtractions—removing keys, weaving strips of paintings into its strings. This song was my grandmother's favorite song. A song she asked me to play for her over and over each time I saw her. Returning to the act of playing the song is remembering; transforming and losing the song is a process that feels like the elusive nurture of memories of that which has passed.
